HOW HBS LABS HANDLES YOUR INFORMATION
Last updated: September 23, 2026
HBS Labs LLC (HBS Labs, we, us, or our) operates hbslabs.com (the Site) and sells laboratory research products. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site and our order and support channels, why we use it, with whom we disclose it, and the choices available to you. You can browse and order without creating an HBS Labs account. We collect information you provide at checkout or when contacting us, as well as limited technical information generated when you use the Site. To enter the Site, you must acknowledge a research-use disclaimer. We may keep a record of that acknowledgment and technical information needed to administer the entry gate. HBS Labs does not provide medical care or collect medical histories for clinical assessment through this Site.
1. Personal information we collect
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Contact and delivery details | Name, email address, phone number if supplied or required for delivery, billing and shipping addresses | You at checkout or when contacting us; shipping updates from fulfillment providers |
| Order and payment records | Products and quantities ordered, order and transaction identifiers, date, price, tax and shipping amounts, payment status, limited card details such as brand and last four digits if supplied by our processor, refunds, chargebacks, and delivery status | You, our payment processor, and fulfillment providers |
| Research-use and compliance information | Your acknowledgment of the entry disclaimer, your order representations, and information you voluntarily provide if we review a proposed order | You; our internal order-review records |
| Communications | Your support inquiries, messages, attachments, and our responses | You and our communications providers |
| Site and device information | IP address, browser and device details, approximate location derived from IP address, page requests, referring URL, timestamps, security logs, and interactions needed to run and improve the Site | Your browser or device and our hosting, security, and analytics tools |
| Marketing preferences | Email subscription and opt-out status, if you separately sign up for marketing | You and our email provider |
Our payment processor collects and handles full payment credentials as needed to process payment. HBS Labs generally receives transaction status and limited payment details, rather than your full card number. The processor's own privacy notice applies to its independent handling of payment data.
Please do not send us medical histories, diagnoses, prescriptions, laboratory results, or other health information in checkout notes or routine support requests. We do not ask for that information to sell laboratory research products. If you send it anyway, we may use it only as necessary to address your message, protect safety, or meet legal obligations, and may delete it when no longer needed. We do not use customer messages to create treatment recommendations.
Products viewed or purchased can sometimes suggest a person's interests or circumstances. We treat identifiable browsing and purchase records as private transaction information and do not use them to infer a customer's health condition.
2. How we use personal information
We use personal information to:
- Operate the Site, shopping cart, and checkout;
- Review, accept, process, fulfill, ship, and track orders;
- Process payments, refunds, taxes, and payment disputes;
- Send transactional messages about orders, delivery, product issues, and support;
- Respond to questions and privacy requests;
- Maintain product traceability, transaction, tax, and business records;
- Prevent fraud, protect the Site, investigate misuse, and enforce our Terms;
- Understand Site performance and fix technical problems; and
- Comply with law and establish or defend legal claims.
If you separately choose to receive marketing emails, we use your email address and preferences to send them. You can unsubscribe using a link in those messages or by contacting us. Unsubscribing does not stop necessary order or service messages. We do not use automated decisions to determine your health status, prescribe treatment, or make decisions with comparable legal or significant effects through this Site.
3. How we disclose personal information
We disclose only the information reasonably needed for these purposes:
- Payment processors and fraud-prevention providers: to authorize payment, handle refunds and disputes, and identify suspicious transactions;
- Fulfillment companies and shipping carriers: to prepare, ship, track, and deliver an order; they may receive product, recipient, and address information needed for that purpose;
- Site, hosting, security, analytics, email, and support providers: to operate the Site, send messages, troubleshoot, secure systems, and provide support;
- Tax, accounting, and professional advisers: to maintain records, meet obligations, and obtain advice;
- Authorities and other parties where legally appropriate: to respond to lawful process, protect rights and safety, investigate suspected fraud, or comply with law; and
- A successor in a business transaction: if HBS Labs is involved in a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to applicable law and safeguards.
Our service providers are expected to use the information provided to perform their assigned services, subject to their agreements and applicable law. A payment processor or shipping carrier may also handle certain information as an independent business under its own privacy notice.
4. Sale, targeted advertising, and cross-site tracking
As drafted, HBS Labs does not sell personal information or disclose identifiable browsing or purchase activity to third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising or retargeting. We do not place third-party advertising pixels on the Site. If we change these practices, we will update this Policy and provide the choices required by applicable law before using information for a new purpose.
5. Cookies and site analytics
The Site uses technologies needed for essential functions such as maintaining a cart, securing checkout, preventing fraud, and remembering basic preferences. We may use limited analytics to understand aggregate traffic, diagnose errors, and improve Site performance. You can control cookies through your browser. Blocking essential cookies may prevent the cart or checkout from working. If we introduce optional analytics or advertising technologies that require a consent or opt-out choice, we will provide the applicable control and update this section. A browser privacy signal will be processed where applicable law requires it.
6. Data retention
We keep information for the period reasonably needed for its purpose:
- Order, payment, refund, tax, and shipment records are kept while needed for fulfillment, accounting and tax obligations, product traceability, disputes, fraud prevention, and legal claims;
- Support messages are kept while needed to resolve the matter and document the outcome;
- Security and technical logs are kept for a shorter period appropriate for troubleshooting, security, and fraud detection; and
- Marketing preferences are kept until you unsubscribe, after which we retain a suppression record so we can honor that choice.
The exact period depends on the record, legal requirements, applicable limitation periods, and whether a dispute or investigation is pending. We delete, de-identify, or securely dispose of information when it is no longer needed.
7. Security and location of processing
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No transmission or storage method is completely secure. We and our providers may process information in the United States and other places where they operate, subject to applicable legal protections.
8. Your privacy choices and requests
Depending on where you live and the law that applies to HBS Labs, you may request access to, a copy of, correction of, or deletion of personal information. You may also have rights to opt out of certain processing, withdraw consent where processing depends on it, or appeal a decision about a request.
Send requests to support@hbslabs.com with the subject line Privacy Request, or write to the mailing address below. Tell us which right you wish to exercise and provide enough information to locate the relevant order or correspondence. Because we do not offer accounts, we may verify your identity using information associated with an order or request. We will not ask you to provide more information than reasonably needed for verification. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, subject to verification of authority.
We may deny or limit a request when an exception applies, including where records are needed to complete an order, comply with law, prevent fraud, handle a dispute, or protect legal rights. We will explain a denial and provide appeal instructions where required. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
You can unsubscribe from optional marketing using the link in the message.
9. Children
The Site is intended for adults who are at least 18 or the age of majority in their jurisdiction, whichever is higher. We do not knowingly collect information from children through the Site. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
10. Third-party sites
Links to other sites lead to services with their own privacy practices. This Policy applies to HBS Labs information practices described here and does not govern information that another company independently collects on its own site.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will post the updated version with a revised date and give additional notice when required by law. A material change to how we use previously collected information will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
